Welcome to the Digital Detox Country Club

We hope you’ll enjoy your stay. Please remember to leave your cell phone in your car before walking up to the Pro Shop.

We spend enough of our daily lives looking down at our screens – or thinking about them – that we feel you could use a break from it all.

Embrace the opportunity to look up instead, and witness all that you would have missed otherwise.

You’ll find wonderful scenery. Take note of the varying shades of green that you can see, from the leaves in the bushes and the trees, to the rough, to the fairways and greens.

You’ll find that nature is all around you, speaking to you. That popular song atop your music playlist can’t compete and can wait for the ride back home.

You’ll find smiling faces, walking towards the first tee or heading in for a drink after the round. You might know these people already and if you don’t, a welcoming smile might be all that is needed to invite an introduction.

You’ll find that you are able to concentrate on the subject at hand for longer than a few seconds. Sure, memes and light talk are harmless fun but you may find your group moving into more meaningful discussions that would be difficult to fully explore if the speaker did not benefit from a captive audience.

Live in the moment, but really this time. Commit to every one of your shots and appreciate every word that is spoken, either on the course or off. But really.

Don’t worry how that next email or text might impact your mood going forward. Don’t wonder what the next swipe-down-to-refresh will bring to your feeds. Don’t fall victim to the carefully engineered tactics that train your brain to crave it, to be a slave to it. Fully claim your dominion over your devices. Ignore them. Deny them.

All of it can wait, and should wait. Because right now you’re at the golf course, probably your favourite place in the world. And you’re amongst your friends. Enjoy every minute of it and all that it can offer you.

We hope to see you again very soon.
